RUFORUM  a  network of 129 universities in 38 countries in Africa is reaching out to stakeholders and agri-food sector players particularly universities, research institutions and, policy makers to dialogue on the solutions and actions for the appropriate agri-food systems in Africa. Given the mandate, research institutions have the potential to develop empirically grounded bold new actions, solutions, and strategies that provide a holistic approach to key gaps, questions and concerns affecting the agri-food systems.  This we believe will demonstrate the interconnectedness between science and policy and the influence of the university on the agri-food sector in Africa.  Improvements in agri-food systems that is dominated by a youthful population will be driven by experienced and seasoned advocates of development for Africa by Africans.  The dialogue brings together key actors to chart a pathway for linking science to practice in improving the agri-food sector. It builds on the independent University-policy regional dialogues hosted in East and Southern Africa, West Africa, Central Africa and the Vice Chancellors Forum: Towards a Common Voice from African Universities to the UN Food Systems Summit 2021
