In celebration of the progress Africa has made and reflecting upon the common challenges that the continent faces, the Southern Africa Climate-Smart Agriculture Alliance (SACSAA), hosted by the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN), in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Climate-Smart Agriculture (GACSA) and CARE International are hosting a regional food systems dialogue to promote the Africa agenda, whilst embracing peace, stability, unity and prosperity.
The 2021 theme of Silencing The Guns: Creating Conducive Conditions for Africa’s Development and Intensifying the Fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic, bears relevance to the development of Africa.
Considering the importance of environment, agriculture and water as important drivers in Africa’s economic development, the 2021 Africa Day theme exemplifies pertinent issues, which impact on the lives of ordinary Africans who are afflicted, on a daily basis by the harsh realities of life on the continent.
The regional food systems dialogue builds on the ongoing regional CSA priorities and showcases the alliance as an innovative space for stakeholders to come together share and explore opportunities for collaborative partnerships.
Under the Independent Dialogues Food Systems Summit banner, the event will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to dialogue on how to ensure healthy diets for all while adapting and mitigating to climate change and sustainably managing natural resources.
The event will present some of the most salient points of agri-food systems transformative ambition and open the space to discuss how the path to the upcoming UN Food Systems Summit in September 2021 and COP26 in November could become a turning point for agri-food systems, but more specifically addressing agriculture, climate change and nutrition.
