The Food: Knowing What’s Safe Independent Dialogue, hosted by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation, is being held in the run-up to the UN Secretary General convening a Food Systems Summit in September 2021. The Food Systems Summit will focus on working together globally to transform the way the world produces, consumes and thinks about food and the need for sustainable solutions driven by holistic, systemic approaches.
Food Systems Summit Dialogues offer a powerful opportunity for people everywhere to have a seat at the table at this milestone UN Summit. Dialogues bring together a diversity of stakeholders, including voices that are seldom heard, and provide an important opportunity for participants to debate, collaborate, and take action towards a better future. They give us the chance to connect, meet new partners, inspire and be inspired.
The Lloyd’s Register Foundation, through its World Risk Poll identified that 60% of people worry about the safety of their food with 17% of the world’s population experiencing serious harm from food . In fact, food safety is of crucial interest to the global population.
We invite you to be involved in this discussion exploring the topic and the ways in which the safety and security of our food can be improved. The Dialogue will start with scene-setting, expert-led insights from across the food industry. It will then become a collaborative effort, with attendees being given a platform to discuss and share ideas and opinions, feeding in both their professional viewpoints but also with a secondary hat on as food consumers in the form of facilitated roundtable conversations in dedicated online breakout rooms.
Key areas for discussion within the breakout groups include, but are not limited to:
• How can we ensure accurate, consistent and easy to understand information about food and make it available to all consumers by 2030?
• How can we ensure consumers across the world can identify the source of the food they buy quickly and reliably?
• How can we increase trust in food information from governments and official sources?
• How can the food industry ensure that there are sufficient skills and knowledge throughout its supply chain to prepare safe, nutritious and affordable food, even in times of disruption?
Post-Dialogue, a comprehensive report of the proceedings will be provided to the UN Food Systems Summit organisers.
Lloyd’s Register Foundation is an independent global charity that supports research, innovation, and education to make the world a safer place.
