Descripción
The Challenge: Food waste is a critical aspect of the food chain and to a large extent also involves us, the consumers, directly: In US & UK households alone, the equivalent to 1/3 of the yearly Sub-Saharan African food production is wasted. 1 2
In the discussion around innovative solutions that increase the world’s food productivity, it is sometimes forgotten that one way to feed our growing world population is to drastically reduce the amount of food that is produced but never consumed. According to a FAO study, limiting food waste globally has the potential to reduce additional food production by 60%. 3
The Future: With this Independent Dialogue, we want to walk the talk together with you: let’s virtually share a meal cooked from saved food, exchange ideas on how to reduce food waste and have a lively discussion on what else is needed from institutions, producers and our society to make food waste a thing of the past!
Depending on your time zone, you may be joining for a brunch, aperitivo or dinner: every type of meal is welcome!
The only thing that matters is that you bring some saved food: a surprise bag from TooGoodToGo, a home-cooked meal made from funny-looking veggies or perfectly-fine but past expiration date ingredients or even some leftovers from the day before.
Let’s not only talk about fighting food waste – let’s act upon it!
