Description
Among a series of the Dialogue, Department of Cooperatives and Rural Development is assigned by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to organize the Sub-National Dialogue on Developing Sustainable Food Systems in the Northern Vietnam, which will be held on 22 June virtually. The objectives of the Sub-National Dialogue in the Northern Vietnam are: i) Introduce about the UN Food Systems Summit (FSS) 2021 and Vietnam’s participation, determining the feasible pathways to build up the sustainable food system by 2030 aligning to 17 UN’ SDGs; ii) Discuss about the food system in the Northern Vietnam on current situation, vulnerabilities, gaps, challenges and opportunities; iii) Propose solutions and action pathways to transform the food system in the Northern Vietnam toward responsibility, accessibility of healthy and nutritious diets for all, transparency, and sustainability by 2030.
The Sub-Dialogue will be (co)chaired by: Mr. Le Duc Thinh, Director of Department of Cooperatives and Rural Development; Ms. Lesley Miller, Deputy Representative of UNICEF; Ms. Sabine Douxchamps, CGIAR Representative; Ms. Truong Tuyet Mai, Vice Director of National Institute of Nutrition.
The dialogue has two sessions with the focus questions given below:
Dialogue session 1: Current situation, vulnerabilities and gaps of the food systems in the Northern Vietnam.
Focus questions of the session 1:
- What are the major characteristics, issues and problems of the food systems in the Northern Vietnam?
- Why is this problem? Where do they occur? What is the cause? Who do they impact?
- How are these problems and gaps related to other theme issues in the food system? (positive and negative)
- What are important trade-offs and synergies?
- What are the most important problems and gaps constraining progress towards this theme?
Dialogue Session 2: Opportunities, solutions, and actions pathways to achieve sustainable food systems, ensuring nutrition and improving public health in the Northern Vietnam
Focus questions of the session 2:
- What are concrete initiatives, solutions and action for rapid and lasting change?
- What needs to be done? Where? By whom?
- What are the likely synergies and trade-offs with other food system dimensions and outcomes? How should these be addressed?
- What are key levers for change – e.g. policy, innovation, gender equity, finance?
Discussion themes
Each Dialogue session focuses on three themes as follow:
– Theme 1: Ensure access to safe and nutritious food for all and shift to sustainable consumption patterns.
– Theme 2: Boost nature-positive production and build resilience to vulnerabilities, shocks, and stress.
– Theme 3: Eliminate poverty and increase income, advance equitable livelihoods, and value division
