Description
Our current food system is at risk with the continuous reduction in productivity and increasing damage to biodiversity, environment and human health. This calls for an immediate attention to shift detrimental agricultural practices to a new “homeostasis status”, soften called regenerative agriculture. The approach of this session is to restore the microbiome and microbial diversity in the agricultural systems, to enrich the beneficial microbes in the soil, to promote growth, stress responses, and pathogen/insect resistance of crops. Novel omics technology and advanced bioinformatics allow scientists to identify mechanisms on plant-microbes interaction contributing to plant health and benefits to environment, growers and consumers.
The objective of this dialogue:
- To establish a better understanding in regenerative agriculture among stakeholders.
- To highlight an important role of technology such as microbiome and biocontrol in the global sustainable food system
Confirmed speakers:
- Dr. Angela Sessitsch, Head of Competence Unit Bioresources, Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), Austria
