Nepal Food Networks presents an online independent dialogue series throughout mid June to the end of July  in different themes contributing to UN Food Systems Summit Dialogues 2021. By bringing together stakeholders from along the entire food supply chain, from growing, processing, preparing, trading to sharing we aim to strengthen, inspire and create new dialogue on sustainable and resilient food systems suitable for Nepal.

Across the world, food systems are fragile and inequitable, as millions of people around the globe have experienced first-hand during the COVID-19 crisis. For many – especially those who were already struggling before the pandemic – the recent food system disruptions have led to job losses, hunger and malnutrition. Yet, while COVID-19 may have catalysed food and nutrition insecurity for many more people, it is not the underlying cause of the challenges we are now facing with respect to our food systems.

Connecting urban, peri-urban and rural farmers to local buyers can enhance producer income streams, build more ecologically sound food systems, and cater to the needs of restaurants, schools, institutions and demand access for fresher and healthier products. 

This discussion will explore scale-appropriate technologies; social business models; and/or, local, organic food market systems to reconnect people with local food systems. How do we create resilient food supply systems– that’s fair to producers, efficient and environment-friendly supply chain, benefits consumers ? 

This webinar would be the platform for bringing out the voice of every “Food Heroes”  who are contributing to the local food system and discuss what approaches are required for systemic change.
