Description
In February 2021, the Platform to Accelerate the Circular Economy (PACE), Resonance, and a global network of business, government, and civil society leaders launched the Circular Economy Action Agenda. The Action Agenda for Food lays out three overarching objectives: (1) food is produced in ways that regenerate nature, (2) food isn’t lost or wasted, and (3) commonly wasted resources are used productively. These are where the circular economy for food can best contribute to broader food system transformation.
The report then identifies the potential impacts of achieving these objectives, key barriers that must be addressed to reach them, and lays out ten calls to action that describe actions leaders can take today to accelerate food system transformation.
In the launch event, we sit down with four leading experts in their field:
- Moderator David B. McGinty serves as Global Director of the Platform to Accelerate the Circular Economy (PACE). Previously David led innovation and technology and public-private partnerships for two global development agencies, served as a team leader of projects funded by USAID, DFAT and DFID, and advised on new forms of investments in emerging markets.
- Steve Schmida is the co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer of Resonance. As Chief Innovation Officer, Steve is responsible for working with Resonance staff, clients, and partners on the development of new products and services designed to drive meaningful impact in emerging markets.
- Petra Hans has been working at the IKEA Foundation since 2011 to help realize its vision to create a better everyday life for the many people. She now heads the Agricultural Livelihoods portfolio, which aims to support people who are dependent on agriculture afford a better life while protecting the planet – focusing on East Africa and India.
- Flemming Besenbacher is chairman of the of the Danish Think Tank on Food Loss and Food Waste, ONE\THIRD.org, Carlsberg Group and Aarhus Water A/S. Additionally, Besenbacher is chairman of the non-profit organization UNLEASH.org and sits on several advisory boards related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
