Description
This independent dialogue hosted by The Movement for Community led Development, a global consortia of 1500+ civil society organizations (CSOs), seeks to elevate the importance of community-led food systems that build local capacity in all five Summit action tracks.
The pandemic has shown us that our current, increasingly centralized food system not only fails to ensure year-round affordable access to nutrition rich food for all, it is catastrophically non-resilient to shocks. Over the past 100 years, pioneering social movements, civil society organizations and (some) governments have shown that integrated, community-led solutions offer a more resilient, equitable and nutritious basis for national and global food systems. This dialogue invites multiple stakeholders to explore how the growing policy focus on localization should shape the upcoming Food Systems.
Three keynote speakers will set the stage for our dialogue:
- Myrna Cunningham Kain, Member of the Food Systems Summit Advisory Committee
- Jemima Njuki, Director for Africa, IFPRI
- Madhura Swaminathan, Chair, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation
Please come prepared to discuss ways that we can leverage community-led approaches to develop more robust food systems at the community-level
