Description
In 2020 Vanuatu experienced compounding disasters with a category five tropical cyclone devastating its northern islands; volcanic ashfall destroying crops in the south; and the COVID19 global pandemic. The advent of these disasters at a time when global aid responses and supply chains disrupted due to the pandemic highlighted the importance of local production and strong national supply chains to ensure food and nutrition security in the event of future disasters and climate change. The Vanuatu Government will align its dialogues with the Gudfala Kakae Policy launched in 2020. This will ensure that any action plans identified and agreed as part of the Global Summit will be able to be realised and implemented through an existing government policy and action plan. This first dialogue will focus on identifying the challenges in creating a secure and resilient food system across the five action tracks.
