This is a Youth Dialogue comprising university students and the discussions are structured along the 5 Action Tracks of the Summit. It is restricted to McGill University graduate and undergraduate students, members of the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Agriculture Youth Council (AYC), and invited students from other Quebec area universities. The student organizers distributed a registration package via email and social media within the university and the AYC so that participants can register for the Dialogue.

The following 3 central questions will guide discussions across all 5 Action Tracks of the Dialogue:

1. What are the innovations in science and technology that you see improving the sustainability of our current food systems by 2030? You can think about all points along the entire value chain from food production and processing, to marketing and sales, to consumption and health outcomes (eg. food type, post-harvest losses and food waste, storage, distribution, nutrition, and dietary patterns).
2. The current structures, policies, and systems (in the broadest possible terms) are perhaps the root causes of today’s unsustainable food systems. What transformations do you envisage being required to make the fundamental changes needed for the “food world” of the future?
3. Who are the key stakeholders that would need to be mobilized and become more prominent (than currently prevails) to allow the above innovations and transformations to materialize?

There is an opening plenary session, then 5 breakout groups will be created so that the participants can deliberate on the above 3 questions for each Action Track. Participants can participate in either French or English, as both languages will be facilitated. There is a facilitator and a rapporteur for each breakout group. We will reconvene in plenary after the breakout sessions, where rapporteurs will present the key findings of their breakout sessions. We will follow Chatham House rules for the Dialogue and all views will be acknowledged, respected and presented in the breakout group reports.

Students of the McGill Food Security Club have taken ownership and leadership of the event to be a truly Youth Dialogue.
