New and challenging risks are emerging in the already complex global food systems, as evidenced by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the impacts of which are skewed towards the world’s most vulnerable populations. In addition, there are many other risks and vulnerabilities, including changing climate and the associated climate extremes, conflict, political instability, economic shocks or pests such as the desert locust, that require solutions and integrated approaches to build greater resilience within the current food system from production to consumption.

Roundtable presenters will share successfully applied and certified regenerative solutions, ranging from very large-scale industrial to small scale community-based farming in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin and North America that can be scaled around the world and further enhance the resilience of food systems to future climate, environmental and health crises and shocks.

This Roundtable contributes to the series of independent dialogues within the scope of the UN Food System Summit with a view to gather stakeholders and demonstrate concrete actions and solutions, reinforced by research, certifications and publications.

Andrea Illy, Italy, chair illycaffé, a B Corp, addresses challenges of developing regenerative coffee as a major crop for a global brand within a complex supply and value ecosystem and comment on the work of the Ernesto Illy Foundation, he co-founded and the Regenerative Society Foundation, he co-chairs.

Hunter Lovins, USA Co-lead at a UN Food System Summit Action, NOW partner, founder of Natural Capital Solutions, co-author Natural Capitalism and many other books about regenerative business and economy will share examples, data and principles of regenerative farming in North America and globally.

T. Vijay Kumar, India, Executive Vice Chairman, Rythu Sadhikara Samstha, a Govt. Corporation for Farmers’ Empowerment, Ex Officio Spl. Chief Secretary for Natural Farming, Agriculture and Cooperation Dept, Govt of A.P will address how also women farmers benefit from natural farming to increase productivity and profitability regeneratively.

Leontino Balbo*, Brazil, co-owner of the Balbo Group and Native, Brazil, regeneratively farms 40,000 hectares, serving local and global brand customers, with a method that can be applied to all major crops and received 20+ certifications, incl. Regenerative Organic Agriculture (*to be confirmed).
