In line with the  UN Secretary General’s call for collective action of all citizens to radically change the way we produce, process, and consume food and given that agriculture and allied sectors remain the largest employers in Pakistan, AwazCDS-Pakistan in partnership with VSO and member organizations of Pakistan Development Alliance have collected the primary actor voices to influence the process and outcome of the summit. A multi-stakeholder tool was designed to gather primary data from the Agriculture-based key stakeholders including, for example, fisher folk, young boys and girls (University students form the agriculture and livestock departments), farmers (male & female), Govt agriculture officials and CSOs including media personnel. Several multi-stakeholder consultations were organized at districts level to bolster food systems dialogue process and provide an opportunity to identify local thought process on key global challenges, including for example Climate Change, Ecological Crisis, Livelihoods Crisis etc. The key objectives of the community consultations were as follows:

• Prepare a diagnosis, based on the feedback from the general community (young people and CSOs) and front-line practitioners (farmers and fisher folks) regarding Agri-based food system in Pakistan
• Generate basic evidence and critical foundation for a political agenda and cross-cutting dialogue on possible food system strategies.

A Citizens’ Position Paper on Food Security has been prepared based on the findings of the primary actors voices collected through aforementioned community & stakeholders consultations.  Draft Citizens Position Paper on Food Security & Sustainable Livelihoods in Pakistan is available here.   This has further given us basis to  organize a national level policy dialogue to contribute in  national framework on food security and sustainable food systems.
