Among the numerous problems exposed in the current food system, industrialized animal agriculture and excessive meat consumption it enables present the most urgent issues to resolve, as well as the most powerful variable to leverage in systemic reform. As a leading international animal welfare organization headquartered in London, World Animal Protection promotes awareness and implementation of animal protection in more than 50 countries worldwide, including China. WAP will initiate this dialogue at the UN Food Systems Summit with the hope of discussing how improving animal welfare can reduce the use of antibiotics, improve food safety& health, reduce environment impact, and ultimately contribute to China’s goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2060 in the areas of animal food production and consumption. WAP seeks to improve the public’s awareness of sustainable food system development and the vital role that animal welfare plays in this process.
