Description
Organic has untapped potential for immense positive change in our world. It can nourish the population in a healthy and environmentally-friendly way, providing clean food for our bodies and, at the same time, fostering rich and productive soil for our planet. It can store away vast amounts of carbon, helping to mitigate climate change. It can create economic opportunities for smaller farmers and boosts local rural economies. It can stimulate global trade and build new markets for producers. And it can encourage innovative and visionary thinking to create a future with a socially-just and sustainable food system.
The Organic Trade Association’s Sustainable Food Trade Action (SFTA) Council is aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and welcomes the opportunity to join this critical conversation to work toward those goals. This event will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders to look at the ways organic can be part of the solution. Paul Schiefer, Sr. Director of Sustainability at Amy’s Kitchen & Chair of Organic Trade Association’s Sustainable Food Trade Action Council, will lead the conversation. Six small breakout discussions will take place to ensure a deep dive into separate issues. Facilitators of these breakout groups will be members of the SFTA Council:
- Feeding the world — Olga Borquez, Wholesum Family Farms
- Human health and wellbeing – Kevin Lee, Dr. Bronner’s
- Climate action – Britt Lundgren, Stonyfield Farm
- Socially responsible economic growth — Tracy Favre, Fig Hill Farm Consulting
- International trade – Emily Musgrave, Driscoll’s
- Innovation – Matt Landi, Awe Sum Organics
Join us and be a part of the solution. We’re allocating seats for 60 diverse stakeholders that will include organic farmers, scientists, food manufacturers, organic fiber, nutritionists, international players, and more.
