Global Summit Dialogues

The Global Summit Dialogues are co-convened by the Food Systems Summit Special Envoy, Dr Agnes Kalibata, with the main purpose to bring political attention to food systems in high-level thematic and sectoral meetings and processes.

They are set to take place alongside key global events on climate, biodiversity, environment, nutrition, the ocean, economies, and related issues within the 2030 Agenda that have connections to food systems.

The First Global Food Systems Summit Dialogue

The first global Food Systems Summit Dialogue took place virtually on Tuesday, 1 December 2020, from 13:00 –15:30 CET, hosted by the 3rd Global Conference of the One Planet network’s Sustainable Food Systems Programme. The Sustainable Food Systems Programme is part of a Heads of State 10-Year commitment (10YFP), launched in 2012, to accelerate the worldwide shift towards sustainable consumption and production. The outcomes of the Dialogue on December 1st will contribute to linking the experiences of the Programme with the 2021 UN Secretary-General’s Food Systems Summit.

UN Food Systems Summit and UN High-Level Energy Dialogue

On 20 January 2021, the Global Summit Dialogue Joint Ministerial Meeting: UN Food Systems Summit and UN High-Level Energy Dialogue was held virtually, with ministerial and executive participants (including youth delegates) “seated” at a virtual table. It was convened by the UN Food Systems Summit, UN High-Level Energy Dialogue, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and the United Arab Emirates. This first joint session of the two UN Summit processes, is intended to identify potential outcomes with simultaneous food, energy, and climate benefits that can be considered for both Summits, as well as COP26.

“Water: the game changer for food systems”

This Global Dialogue will explore the fundamental inter-connections between food systems and water systems, and their relations to other areas fundamental to the Sustainable Development Goals, such as energy, climate, and the environment.

It is co-convened by Dr. Agnes Kalibata, Special Envoy for UN Food Systems Summit and Mr. Gilbert Houngbo, chair of the UN- Water partnership, with the support of the UN-Water partners – the International Water Management Institute, FAO, WFP and IFAD.
