Description
One of the five major objectives of the UN Food Systems Summit (the ‘action tracks’) is to ensure access to safe and nutritious food for all. A global trend in this area is, among other things, to ensure credible information on food products.
In response to expectations from actors in the food supply chain, Poland has made efforts to develop a compatible digital system allowing for food traceability and food authenticity at key stages of the food supply chain, i.e. ‘from farm to fork’. The recording and verification of transactions (events) in food production and distribution processes aims at improving credibility, transparency and reliability of information on food origin.
The project stakeholders comprise actors in the food supply chain, including business associations and organisations operating in the agri-food sector, research units and public administration institutions responsible for supervising food safety and quality.
The organisation of the National Dialogue has been aligned with the project activities. Participants in the Dialogue see multiple benefits that can be achieved by implementing
a digital system allowing to track the production process. The system currently being developed will provide a wide range of information on food, mainly through new functionalities and alignment with the existing reference databases. As a result, the Polish agri-food sector will have a system storing high-quality and reliable food product information that cannot be falsified, which will ultimately be made available, inter alia, to consumers. This will considerably facilitate consumer choice.
