Description
Syria has been in a protracted conflict for more than a decade. While the conflict has contributed to the loss of infrastructure, work, and serious damage to the supply chain, unilateral coercive measures (Sanctions) have compounded matters severalfold.
Continued sanctions, a war-torn economy, and the effects of a depreciated Syrian pound will also contribute to high numbers of acutely food-insecure Syrians.
Today, Livestock keepers cannot afford to buy the required standard quantities of cattle feed, which will eventually affect productivity. Sheep and goat keepers face limited access to grazing lands as well as high feed prices. In the poultry sector, producers of broilers and eggs are experiencing challenges in securing inputs, consequently creating massive fluctuations in the prices of broilers and eggs.
Food processors are facing higher costs of raw materials, transportation, fuel, and skilled labor. As a result, processors have been forced to raise the prices of their final food products.
It is not easy to manage any group discussion such as an FGD (focus group), in an active conflict so we decided to interview several families in their own homes on the same theme- whether sanctions affected food security. This could be conveyed best in a short film which we made with their consent.
The families were randomly chosen across different social backgrounds but in a geographical area where (Aleppo province) people’s work consisted mainly of small-scale agriculture and services.
What makes this video important is to announce that the Syrian People’s lives matter in front of all the world. The voice of Syrian civilians suffering from coercive unilateral measures should be heard.
