Description
Hydroponics is the future of urban farming.
As India grapples with dropping water levels in metros and a rising need for low-cost, nutritious, safe food, hydroponic technology can be a gamechanger. When localized, it can make use of India’s abundant light, save 80-90% water and produce up to 4x the crop yield in the same footprint of land.
This dialogue will be organized at one of the largest commercial-scale hydroponic farms in north India. We will discuss and explore the following topics:
- The scale and impact of hydroponics in urban India so far
- What crops are currently grown using hydroponics and what experiments are being made
- The gaps that exist for hydroponics to reach full potential – localization of technology, efficiencies in supply chain, imported raw material, etc.
- How hydroponics can be leveraged at private, institutional and consumer levels
- Creating a farm-to-fork model and changing consumer behavior/building awareness for increased adoption
