Description
Food Systems are very crucial and critical issues for Africa, and as a continent we are witnessing increasing levels of poverty, food and nutrition insecurity. African Universities have held dialogue with various actors in the Food Systems Value Chains including Governments across Africa, and they have come up with recommendations for considerations by African Governments and the UN Food Systems Summit. The Pre-UN Food System Summit Dialogue involving a few Africa Heads of State to consider recommendations and suggestions from African Universities to inform our dialogue during the Summit which is a great and proactive initiative by African Universities to engage with African Presidents as Policy Holders.
Given the mandate, research institutions have the potential to develop empirically grounded bold new actions, solutions, and strategies that provide a holistic approach to key gaps, questions and concerns affecting the agri-food systems. This demonstrates the inter-connectedness between science and policy and the influence of the university on the agri-food sector in Africa. Universities in Africa, Science Technology and Innovations will drive for attainment of the SDGs in general and the Zero hunger (SDG 2) and No Poverty (SDG 1) that are anchored in the agri-food sector.
The dialogues will enable excellencies as policy holders to share views and recommendations to add to the collective voice from Africa to the UN Food Systems Summit 2021
