Description
This dialogue is being convened under the Malawi Irish Consortium on Gender Based Violence with the aim of building in issues of gender equality in the food systems sector and bringing together members under the Consortium working in the similar fields of gender equality and livelihoods.
The aim of the dialogue is to discuss how to achieve gender equality for healthy and sustainable food systems. Specifically, it is expected that the dialogue on gender and food systems will make it possible to identify;
1. A set of solutions and commitments for gender equality in food systems
2. Position of the MICGBV on what commitments are needed to achieve gender equality in food systems for Malawi
The event will bring together a range of different stakeholders such as Government through representation from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies that are aligned to issues of food systems and gender equality, civil society organizations, farmer organizations, policy makers, and women farmers as project participants. By the end of the dialogue, we aim to devise solutions on rural women’s empowerment in food systems, how to bridge the gender technology gap in the sector, and amplify women’s voices and decision making in food systems. The outcomes of the dialogue discussion will be documented and reported back to the organizers of the Food Systems Summit through the official reporting framework.
The event will be held in partnership with the Irish Forum for International Agricultural Development (IFIAD).
