Description
50 years of Agro-Policy has been production-oriented instead of demand-oriented
– Low degree of self-sufficiency
– Lack of profitability / farm extinction
– Extinction of species & climate crisis
– Animal suffering in industrial farming
– Poor working conditions
– Diet-related diseases

– fragile supply chains
The degree of self-sufficiency in Germany with regard to vegetables, fruit, honey and cereals is too low! Too much dependence on imports!
FUTURE NEEDS: Needs-based nutrition environment
– Follow Planetary Health Diet concept
Responsibility goes back from the citizens to the community & politics
– Food as precautionary & welfare measure and not primarily as a private economic transaction
– Resilient, regional value creation with high degree of self-sufficiency
-From meat-, fat- and sugar-heavy to wholefood and predominantly plant-based
Services of general interest & food sovereignty:
– Structural/urban planning, incl. regional value creation
– Community & out-of-home catering
– Subsidy & fiscal policy
– Regulation of advertising and trade practices
– Urban farming and edible cities
– Prevention and health promotion
Cities and municipalities need to network and establish food councils!
