Description
For the upcoming of our series “Systems Innovation in the Decade of Action” where we explore the food system and paths to transformation, we will dive into an exercise of empathy by attempting to expand our understanding of the food system from the point of view of another actor within it.
Each and every one of us is a consumer of food, this role identity we all have in common. Some of us have several other distinct roles, say, as a producer or regulator of food. Sometimes when we feel impassioned and/or frustrated about the complex impact of food on our societies, we speak with certainty of the motivations and actions of others.
- “If only every farmer would understand that organic is much better for the environment and can also be profitable!”
- “City dwellers don’t see how much we do for the environment in the countryside.”
What if by thinking from the perspective of another actor, we could gain a more realistic picture of the web of interactions that make up the food system? Increasing empathy might well be the key to overcoming a perception of what divides us and which ultimately shatters our power to act.
Realizing the shared intentions and constraints of each actor can become a powerful basis for collective action.
Join us in our exploration of how causal loop mapping can give a unique insight into the decision-making process from within.
Jointly organized and convened by Global Goals Berlin and Systems Innovation Hub Berlin
