Food systems are a complex web of inter-connected social, environmental, economic, and cultural issues. To be able to deliver systems solutions within this complexity, ‘systems innovation’ offers cross-sectoral, multi-stakeholder, multifactorial, and interdisciplinary approaches to innovative solution development. As such, ‘systems innovation’ enables transdisciplinary processes to stimulate learning, problem-solving, and co-production of knowledge and solutions between a diversity of stakeholders, to tackle complex societal challenges To help realize equitable, sustainable, and nourishing food systems globally, there is an urgent need to embed systems thinking and systems innovation across stakeholders. Innovation ecosystems with multiple stakeholders are considered critical to create capacity & investments in agri-food innovation, knowledge sharing and to address local challenges with scalable impact.
This virtual session will identify solutions and initiatives that embody systems innovations that have the potential to transform food systems but also highlight the co-benefits that systems innovation could unlock for people, the planet, and prosperity across the globe and the achievement of SDGs. Furthermore, this session will set the pace for the achievement of these benefits within the decade of action and outline how regional and national innovation ecosystems could serve as agents of accelerated change.
