Description
The Government of Nepal has accorded high priority to ensure access to affordable, healthy and nutritious food for all Nepalese citizen. Despite its high efforts to this, still full realization of this priority is yet to be achieved. Considering the priority, the UN Food Systems Summit 2021 has become as an important opportunity for Nepal to examine food systems and to identify pathways for transformation to make it equitable, sustainable and resilient and to achieve the national priority. In line with this, National Planning Commission has organized first National Food Systems dialogues and seven provincial dialogues on the theme “Nepal towards an equitable, resilient and sustainable food system”. Following this, a second national dialogues is planned on 19 July 2021 to share reflection of, and synthesize the outcomes from the first national and seven Provincial Food Systems Dialogues; and to understand perspectives and options for sustainable national food systems to ensure that they are considered as a basis in developing national pathways. There will be six discussion groups representing five action tracks and policy environment. Under policy environment, the groups will synthesize key issues and possible actions related to the effective implementation of Right to Food and Food Sovereignty Act as a means and legal framework to ensure food governance and transform food systems in Nepal.
